You are now in front of what was once California Square, located north of Marshall Street, between Hamilton and Winslow. California Square was dedicated to the town by Simon Mezes as part of the original Mezesville town site survey of 1854. Mezes had a large role in establishing Redwood City and laid out the town in a grid system creating lots for sale to the squatters. California Square was designed after a similar plaza in Mexico City. The block was developed from 1950-1970 as part of the San Mateo County Government court complex.
