You are now in front of the location of the Holmquist Hardware store established in 1895 by Rudolph Holmquist. Though the building pictured holds the name of the store, the actual store stood across the street where Savers in now. Rudolph ran the business for 45 years before he handed over the reins to his son, H.E. "Rowdy" Holmquist. The brick building pictured was the Holmquist Hardware machine shop, which still stands, though is unoccupied. After a fire destroyed the hardware store and the Holmquist residence behind it, the machine shop stayed in business, but eventually closed down for good in 1962.
