Judge George H. Buck was a school teacher and attorney in Boston, and came to Redwood City in 1874 with 45 cents. By 1882 he was elected San Mateo County District Attorney and in 1890 he was elected to the Superior Court, where he remained for 42 years, longer than any other judge in San Mateo County. He handled over 20,000 cases and naturalized 1,100 foreign born soldiers during World War I.
