DATE OF DEATH
CAUSE OF DEATH
James Peace arrived in the area in 1838 and worked as a carpenter near Woodside. The Fathers at Santa Clara Mission placed him in charge of a large numbers of native tribe and he taught them woodworking skills. Even though he did not serve in the Civil War, he was buried in the GAR plot. Some say he was wrapped in a cherished old U.S. flag he flew at Half Moon Bay on election day in 1849.
